Marine Layer Store Sign

Marine Layer opened a pop-up shop in the Marina district of San Francisco, and they’d found a piece of unfinished wood to use for the sign. I spent an afternoon down at the shop hand-painting the logo and text onto the sign. One interesting thing I learned about painting on natural wood: sandpaper on wood works like a rubber eraser on paper. Go figure.

Marine Layer is a San Francisco-based t-shirt and apparel company. I’ve been doing design for them occasionally for the past year. This was one of the first project I worked on for them. The logo was already created before I got involved, and the sunset design was their most popular print, so it was a natural fit for the wall at their office / hang-out spot.

The concept here was to create a ‘headboard’ for a bed, in a bedroom in Englewood, NJ. The client gave me the concept, and a list of flowers she wanted included. Took me about 5 days.

Cassie’s Pizzeria

Cassie’s was an upscale pizza place in the town of Englewood, NJ. This was my first paid mural commission. Two of my high school buddies were waiters there, and the management was asking around if anyone knew a painter to paint a mural. My friends passed the word on to me, and I got in touch. They offered me $500 plus materials, plus food and drink. Looking back, $500 for a two week, 50 by 15 foot mural job is pretty darn low. But I did my best to make up for it in pizza consumption, and all told, this job was a blast.
