I still remember the first time I heard Spacemen 3. It was 1998, I was a junior in high school in New Jersey, and I was in New York City, record shopping on the weekend. It was in the basement of Generation Records on Thompson Street, and I heard this rock music on the speakers that was unlike anything I’d heard before. Heavier, more driving, just badass. I asked the clerk at the counter who it was, and I snapped up the album immediately (Performance, a live show from 1988).
