In 2004, in Davis, CA, I started writing songs and playing in a guitar and drums duo, Playboy Millionaires, with drummer Jaizi Abedania (Pill Wonder). We played as a duo for a few months, until an old friend of mine from New Jersey, Griffin Walker, joined the band to play bass. We played as a band until September of 2005, mostly playing shows around the Davis and Sacramento area.
In New York City, the summer of 2006, I started playing music with another old friend, Laura Baran. Somehow, we started planning a tour of the country even before we’d written our first song together. We wrote one song, rehearsed some of the old Playboy Millionaires material, wrote a couple more songs, and recorded a quick tour CD-R as the Wild Kindness. Joined again by Griffin Walker on bass, we hit the road, playing shows from New York to South Dakota, Seattle to San Francisco, and back again.
After the tour, I took a couple of months off to recuperate and write new songs. When the band reconvened in February of 2007 in Brooklyn, NY, we were joined by friends Teresa Kenny and Stan Zenkoff on percussion, and Kenny McGrath on violin. We again played as the Wild Kindness, but adopted acoustic arrangements, in order to adapt our sound to suit the restrictions of using a fourth-floor walkup apartment as our practice space. Over the course of 2007 and 2008, we played out around New York, notably several shows at Pete’s Candy Store in Brooklyn.
In the summer of 2007, I traveled back to Davis, to record some new tracks with old friends. In the two weeks I spent recording songs there with Andy Pastalaniec (San Francisco Water Cooler) on bass and Teddy Briggs (What’s Up, Boss The Big Bit) on drums, the band TNT Dynamite was formed. This lineup was reprised in 2008 for a short Norcal tour, with the addition of Jerry Encoe (Residual Echoes, San Francisco Water Cooler) on guitar.
Which brings up just about up to speed. I’m currently based in San Francisco, playing occasionally with the TNT Dynamite crew, and working on new projects as well. Stay tuned to this page, sign up for email subscriptions to hear about new tracks, videos, tour dates, and more.
